Book Review: Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
Beautiful Disaster
by Jamie McGuire
The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.
Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.
Review:
I did it. I finally broke out of my normal PNR genre habit and picked this up when I was at work the other day. (I work at a small Indie bookstore).
After about three pages, I was hooked and had to buy the book. Keep in mind, I normally don’t buy books after three pages, but I couldn’t help myself this time. After being introduced to Travis and Abby, I had to find out what happened.
Beautiful Disaster is exactly that…beautiful, and disastrous. Travis and Abby have more highs and lows than a rollercoaster, and Beautiful Disaster sat me down, buckled me in, and didn’t release me until I turned the last page. I devoured this book in record time and I have to say that I’m glad Beautiful Disaster was the book I grabbed off the shelf at work the other day.
BD had me laughing, sighing, almost crying, and everything in between. The only reason I didn’t give this book 5/5 is because Abby drove me a little batty. There were more than a few times when I wanted to reach into the book and slap some sense into her, but all in all, Beautiful Disaster was a great read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a book with high highs, low lows, and a bad boy. After all, Travis Maddox is a *great* bad boy.
Rating: 4/5 stars!
