Vampire Nick Christos might have been born in the Middle Ages, but those days seem tame compared to the last eight years spent ruling the Supernatural Council. The only respite in his long days of governing is with his sweet neighbor Casey Meyers. Sure, he’s forced to take a cold shower after every encounter, but no way will he risk anything more with a human. Not with his blood thirsty ex on the prowl and out to ruin Nick’s life.
But when said crazy ex shows up at the ball and flies her freak flag high, Nick has more to worry about than keeping his hands off his neighbor. He’ll have to stay closer than ever if he hopes to keep her alive, but will she want to leave him forever when she learns the truth?
Author Interview: Candace Havens
1. Can you tell us something interesting about your writing process?
I write really fast. And sometimes the books fall out of my head so fast I can’t keep up with the typing. My favorite place to write is at home at my desk, and in the ‘L’ of my sectional. I always have a candle going and every book has a soundtrack.
2. Who is your favorite character (that you’ve written)?
This is like picking a favorite child. I love all of my heroines and heroes. There’s a bit of me in almost everyone I write so I love them all.
3. Is there anything you’re working on now?
I’m working on so many things. I have more paranormal romances on the way. I have a new Steampunk series beginning in October. I’m continuing some of my early series, and we are going to start shopping a new Young Adult that I’ve written with Gwen Reyes.
4. Where did the idea for your book come from?
For the first time in my writing career, I can answer this question. Usually, ideas just show up and I have no idea how they arrived. But the genesis of this project came from my editor Liz Pelletier. She said she wanted a certain kind of vampire book. I told her I don’t write vampires. Then she said she wanted a best friends to lover story, and BOOOOOM! The story was fully formed in my head. Nothing had ever been so easy to write.
5. If you could jump in to any book and live there, which book would you choose?
I would love to jump into any of my books, especially Sweet, Tx, where my Charmed & Dangerous series is set. It’s a magical town. But if I were to jump into J.K. Rowling’s Hogwarts, I would be the happiest girl in the world. I know, nerd alert.
6. Of all the little things and simple pleasures in life, which one do you enjoy most of all?
Hanging out on the couch with my husband, kids, and my dogs.
7. If you could have a casual, 30-minute conversation by the fireplace with any author, living or dead, who would you choose, and what would you ask?
I would sit in front of a fire and pick Charles Dickens’ brain. I love that guy. His stories are so beautiful and the characters so rich. And the Bronte sisters are my heroes. Their dark stories that are so filled with romance and tragedy, move me in ways I can’t explain. Mr. Rochester, Jane Eyre, Heathcliff, I could go on and on about the characters they wrote.
