Arielle: Immortal Awakening
by Lilian Roberts
A mortal soul…
From the time college co-ed Arielle Lloyd had been young, she had been able to hear the thoughts and feel the pain of certain others, and those she comes to think of as her special group. One friend’s dabbling with spells and magic showed her the power of love that can endure beyond the grave. But another friend’s terrifying encounter with a warlock left Arielle wary of those who claim otherworldly powers. On holiday in the south of France, a chance encounter could change her mind. Or could cost her life.
An Immortal man…
Sebastian Gaulle is the wealthy, handsome owner of an international company. He is also an Immortal. For five centuries he has sought the one soul who can fulfill his dreams of everlasting love. Then he meets Arielle, whose heart calls out to him like no other.
A timeless love…
Sebastian has made his choice clear. But jealous Immortals from his past threaten retaliation. They have vowed to destroy any woman who becomes involved with him. In spite of the powerful protection amulet Sebastian gives Arielle, death stalks their newfound love. Their love may be eternal, but they may be running out of time.
Who is your favorite character (that you’ve written)?
My favorite Character is Sebastian Gaulle. He is an amazing immortal, over six feet tall, with broad shoulders, sandy hair, and mesmerizing emerald eyes. He is stunning and full of passion for Arielle. It is hard to believe that a man like him has been dead for over 500 years.
Where did the idea for your book come from?
I was always fascinated by science and the idea of human immortality. When I was very young I envisioned that by the time I reached a mature age, science would have moved leaps and bounds to unearth the incredible secret of immortality. My close friends and I discussed immortality often during our college years. I dreamed that we would be able to achieve immortality in the next six or seven decades, but I knew it was just a dream. I remember staying up until the wee hours of the morning wondering what if…
Timeless existence! What an astonishing thought. What would it feel like to never get old, never get sick, and remain in love with the man of your dreams for centuries to come? In our day, physical immortality is just a dream, but it remains a real goal for science. That is exactly what gave me the motivation to write my books. I will not see immortality in my lifetime and maybe it is all just a theory, but at least I can make it happen in my books.
Do you listen to music while you write (if so, do you have a playlist I can share?), or do you prefer quiet?
I always listen to music while writing. I have a list of favorite songs. It is mostly French music:
1. Je Sais Pas (Celine Dion)
2. J’attendais (Celine Dion)
3. Mon amie la rose (Francoise Hardy)
4. Sa vie (Garu)
5. Emmene-moi (Sandrine Francois)
6. Je ne te me pluis (Christophe)
If you could jump in to any book and live there, which book would you choose?
“Pride and Prejudice.” There is nothing more intriguing to me than the 1700s and 1800s. I fell in love with the story and the characters. Darcy is striking, tall, intelligent, and very wealthy. He is the man of every woman’s dream. His love for Elizabeth Bennet is heartwarming. She has bewitched him body and soul and all he wants is to make her love him. The plot is so beautiful and so intriguing that I have read the book over and over again.
I was inspired by the love between Darcy and Elizabeth and in my series I tried to capture the same sentiment between Sebastian and Arielle.
Describe your book in a tweet (140 characters or less).
Passion drives stunning immortal Sebastian Gaulle to capture Arielle’s human heart and show her that love can endure beyond the grave.
What was last book you bought OR What book are you looking forward to reading?
The last book I bought was “City of Bones.” There is so much talk about a new movie based on the book, so I wanted to find out what all the talk was about. I like to read the book before I watch the movie.
Can you tell us about the moment you decided you were going to attempt to write your first book?
When I was younger I loved to read. When I say I loved to read I mean I could sit down and go through a book in one day. There is only one thing I love more than reading and that is writing. I had so many thoughts in my head and such a huge desire to put them on paper, but I was scared to death. What if people hated my books? What if the wrote hateful things about them? Would I be able to ignore that and move on? Well, I didn’t think I could, so I decided against the idea.
However, the desire to write a book never left my mind. So, I thought at least I would put my thoughts on paper and just keep them to myself. I got busy with family and career, and the love of writing always lingered . It was later in life that my friends and family prompted me to publish my first book. By then I was more mature and I figured that I could handle criticism much better. I took the big step. Four books later, I feel pretty happy with myself. I know that even if my books are not everyone’s cup of tea, they are one of the dreams on my bucket list that I have accomplished.
Are you a punster or a plotter? Can you describe your writing process for us?
I am definitely a plotter. I can’t write by the seat of my pants. I have to have at least part of the story, the main characters, the places, and some of the important scenes thought out and put on paper. Then, I make changes several times before I start writing the actual manuscript.
