Sunday Status: Books, Work, & Life in General

Hi everyone! With the craziness that April was, I thought a Sunday Status post was definitely in order. :)

Sunday Status

week of: May 7 – May 13

What I’m Reading:

Believe it or not, I haven’t finished even one book in the last month. Yes, I was busy, but you would think that the no internet situation would increase my reading! Actually, it may have, because I started a few new books–just didn’t finish any of them yet. Here’s what I started reading in April:

Sins of the Son (Grigori Legacy #2) by Linda Poitevin - I absolutely loved the first book in this series, Sins of the Angels, and I was excited to receive this one in the mail. I haven’t read that much of it yet, but I did start it.

Earthseed (Seed #1) by Pamela Sargent - the publicist at TOR was kind enough to send me a copy of this book and I’m about 50% done with it. It is actually pretty good! Think HUNGER GAMES on a sci-fi level. Look for a review of this one within the next week or so. (P.S. This one is going to be made into a movie!)

The Taker (The Taker #1) by Alma Katsu - I picked this one up last night while hubby was playing MW3 and ended up reading the first 100 pages. I am really liking it so far, which is surprising because there aren’t many paranormal elements yet. I do love the way Alma Katsu writes and am looking forward to finishing this one soon.

I’m still reading The Darkening Dream by Andy Gavin, so don’t lose hope for that one. It truly is a great story, I just find myself being an extremely moody reader the last few months.

What I’m Working On:

Entangled publishing hasn’t sent me anything yet, but the line that I’ll be editing (the COVET line) isn’t launching until this fall. I have been working for Crescent Moon Press and just finished a paranormal romance for them. I received one of Lynn Rush’s books (Yay!) and have been working on that this week, along with the Unspun Trilogy by Rachel Firasek, Berinn Rae, and Elle J Rossi. I have to say…these ladies know how to write! I am truly enjoying their stories and I hope they continue them in some way, shape, or form. So much fun!

I’m still working two days per week at the bookstore, but my hours will be doubling in a couple of weeks. This town seems to come alive as soon as Memorial Day gets here.

Life In General:

Wow…April was so completely insane. I am so glad it is over and life is settling down. The new house is absolutely fantastic, but the battle with no internet almost did me in. We finally won, but wow…that sucked. Just so you have an idea of what April and the beginning of May was like for me, here’s a few of the things we did:

MOVED – I’m sure everyone can relate to what a pain in the ass moving can be. We moved from a two-story, four-bedroom house to a one-story, three-bedroom house. Needless to say, we got rid of 50% of our stuff.

THE INTERNET BATTLE – the house we moved to is only 3.5 miles from the city limits, so I never anticipated that there wouldn’t be any internet service providers. After the move, I discovered that the only internet service available was satellite, which doesn’t play nice with Xbox Live. After weeks of hunting, I finally got a Verizon hotspot, which works, but is scary expensive.

DROVE TO MEMPHIS, TN AND BACK – my step son was with his mom in Mississippi for the last year. She called about ten days ago and said “He can come home if you come get him NOW.” We jumped in the car and drove straight down and straight back. Hubby and I got a total of about 4 hours of sleep in 48 hours last weekend.

MY KITTY HAD TO BE RUSHED TO THE VET – I guess male cats have something in their urine that can form crystals, and the crystals sometimes adhere themselves to cells in the bladder, which leads to a blockage that is life threatening. He’s home now and doing fine, with a special diet to boot.

A NEW HANDMADE VENUE OPENS TODAY – The Craft Star launches today! I had been selling my goodies on Etsy, but got really tired of the rules changing all of the time, and the fact that I had to sell everything for less than cost, just to get sales. I’m really excited about The Craft Star and will be listing items later tonight. They have created a venue that is truly about the handmade community and I’m thrilled to be taking a chance with them. If you’re curious about my goodies, be sure to check out The Fickle Fairy over the next week. I’ll be adding stuff daily. :)

CRAZY! I’m a little bit surprised that I’m still sane, but I guess when you’re half insane to begin with, the craziness blends with the normal. :P

Well, that’s my Sunday Status this week.  How was your week?  What are you reading?  C’mon, peeps! Share :)

Ir sounds like you had a completely crazy month. I can relate to the downsizing move. I moved from a 2 story 3 bedroom townhouse to a tiny 2 bedroom apartment in April. I still haven’t found room for everything, and I got rid of a ton of stuff.

    • Theresa says:

The amount of stuff that can be accumulated in a six year span is mind-baffling. Life feels so much better now, though. It was like spring cleaning my entire existence and it’s a great feeling now that it’s over. :)

  • Elle J Rossi says:

I thought I was busy! After reading this, I need a nap!! So thrilled to be working with you and thanks for the shout out!

I’m reading FLESH AND BLOOK, book 2 in the House of Comarre series by Kristen Painter. Um… Loving it!!!

    • Theresa says:

LOL Elle, you’re welcome for the shout-out! I’m still trying to catch up on my sleep and the first half of spring passed me by in a blur, but life is GREAT.

I’ve been dying to get my hands on the House of Comarre series! Living in the sticks of northern michigan doesn’t allow many great book finds. lol
